This Saturday 100 students and staff set out for Basel to visit the IGEHO, one of the biggest and most important exhibitions for the hotel business in Switzerland.

The students had the possibility to meet experts and the latest information. It was an exciting day with a lot of fun.

As the winter sets in and the days get colder what better way to warm your belly but with cheese fondue!

The Student Committee hosted this evening at school's dining room with the favourite Swiss specialty, chilled wine and lots of fun. 70 students participated and enjoyed this evening with friends.

Many thanks to the kitchen crew and the student volunteers who made this event possible.

It was a scary atmosphere at CHAOS this Saturday night, as the Students were celebrating Halloween. Vampires, Bats, Mummies and many other creepy creatures were around! The party was a great success and everybody was partying, drinking and dancing until 5 in the morning. The Student Committee served a delicious homemade pumpkin soup to the students at midnight.

On Saturday afternoon 4 teams met for a pumkin carving competition, a typical activity for halloween. The goal was to design a scary and creative pumpkin. It was great fun and the results were amazing...

October 24, 2009: Trip to Gornergrat

On Saturday a large group of about 50 students set off for the Gornergrat and Zermatt.

The weather was beautiful when we arrived and we had a stunning view of the Matterhorn. After an traditional aperitif with Swiss wine and snacks on 3100m altitude and the first snowball fight, the group split up to explore the beauty of the Alps, enjoy the amazing view of the Matterhorn or to go to Zermatt for lunch and shopping.

Overall it was a great day!

October 11, 2009: Hiking Trip

Ten students took the opportunity of a leisurely 4 hour walk through the Valais and got in touch with the nature in the Alps.

It was a great day to walk through the scenic landscape enveloped in Fall's golden light. The weather was beautiful, the sun was out and the trees were showing a beautiful array of different colored foliage.

October 8, 2009: Ice Breaker

The Ice is BROKEN!!!

As a tradition at the University Centre César Ritz the Ice Breaker took place on the first Thursday of the new term.

After the welcome speech of Mr. Gutzwiller everybody enjoyed Swiss raclette, a wide range of hot snacks, a delicious assortment of desserts and not to forget the beer and wine - a perfect evening to get to know each other.

A big thanks to the kitchen and service crew for this wonderful event!

September 17, 2009: A Mid-Summer Night's S'More

The traditional American summer indulgence. Toasted Marshmallows, Graham Crackers, and Milk Chocolate.... Stacked together, and enjoyed by all!

Student gathered around the burning coals to toast their Marshmallows to perfection! Some students were excited for the opportunity to have s'mores in Switzerland... a rare treat, and others were intrigued by the creation.... and later addicted to the chocolaty goodness :)

Amidst finals and flu students were looking for a getaway!

The UCCR Switzerland Scavenger Hunt was just the answer for 10 playful students.

Their mission was to take a picture with each of the following things, gaining one point for each, and an extra point for creative pictures:

A waterfall, Cheese, A Blue Wall, The Swiss Flag, With a Cosmos staff member,Chocolate, A train, Cobblestone, A person with a backpack on, On a Bridge, The Stockalper Castle, Cesar Ritz, A Green Wall, A Mountain, Hiking Boots

After one hour, the teams returned, out of breath, and ready to win. A student volunteer tallied the scores and concluded that Steffi and Minti won by a slim margin.

Saturday August 29, 2009: Shepard's Festival in Belalp

10 Students went to visit the sheep on Saturday in Belalp. The annual Shepard's festival weekend is the time when Shepards welcome their herds back from the mountains for the cold season.

The group enjoyed Raclette, traditional music, sunshine and good company. Svenni, told our group about what it is like to be a Shepard in Iceland, and even wore his traditional Icelandic Sheppard's hat.
